The Daily Covering

Say this every morning before your feet touch the floor. Say it at the door when he leaves. It takes thirty seconds.

Lord, I cover this morning.
Cover his mind. Cover his body. Cover his way.
I plead the blood of Jesus over him.
Every door he walks through, walk through it first.
Keep him out of the wrong place at the wrong time.
Preserve his going out and his coming in.
Bring him home tonight in his right mind.
No weapon formed against him shall prosper.
In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Psalm 121:8 · Isaiah 54:17
From Lord, Cover My Son · His Way

It is late and he is not answering.

What is really going on

You called twice. You texted. You can see the little word Delivered and nothing after it. Your chest is tight and your mind is already at the hospital.

Stop right there. Do not let your mind write the ending. Most nights his phone is dead and he is fine. Pray anyway. The fear has to go somewhere. It can go to God or it can go to your blood pressure.

1 · Pray it

Lord, I cannot reach right now. But you can. You know exactly where he is. You can see his face this minute. I put him in your hands, and I take my hands off this phone. Wherever he is, be there. If he is safe, keep him safe. If he is in danger, step in between. If he is somewhere he should not be, make him uneasy until he leaves. Let him remember his mother. Let him pick up the phone. Keep my mind stayed on you while I wait. You alone make us dwell in safety. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Isaiah 26:3 · Psalm 4:8
2 · Say this to him

When he finally calls back: I'm so glad you're okay. That's all I needed to hear. Love you.

Not this

Do you know how worried I was? Why didn't you answer?

If every missed call ends in a fuss, he will stop calling back at all.

3 · Do it
  • Put the phone face down beside your Bible. Let God hold the waiting.
  • Give it a set amount of time before you start calling around. Decide that number now, while you are calm.
  • If your spirit says something is truly wrong, call the people he was with, then the local hospitals.
  • You do not have to wait 24 hours to report a grown man missing. That is a myth. Call the police non-emergency line and ask.
Only have ten seconds?

Lord, you can see him. Keep him.

From Lord, Cover My Daughter · Her Heart

She is with a man you do not trust.

What is really going on

He does not look you in the eye. He talks for her. She comes around less since he showed up. You already said something, and she defended him.

Every word you say against him pushes her closer to him. So say less to her and more to God. Keep the door open. That open door is the most important thing you have.

1 · Pray it

Lord, you see the man in 's life. You see his heart better than I can. If I am wrong about him, change my mind and help me love him. If I am right, open her eyes. Bring what is hidden into the light. Do not let her be tied to a man who will pull her away from you or from her family. Guard her heart. Guard her body. Guard her money. And keep my door open, Lord, so she always knows she can come home. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Luke 12:3 · Proverbs 4:23
2 · Say this to her

Say it once, calm, and never again: I love you. Whatever happens, you can always come home. No questions at the door.

Not this

He's no good and everybody can see it but you.

She will defend him to defend her own judgment, and she will stop telling you things.

3 · Do it
  • Stay close to her, even if it means being polite to him.
  • Watch for control. He checks her phone, controls her money, keeps her from family, gets jealous over nothing. Those are warning signs of abuse.
  • Ask her questions, not lectures. How does he treat you when you disagree?
Only have ten seconds?

Lord, open her eyes and keep my door open.

Words that open doors

Pick one and use it this week. Then another.

Tell me more. The two most powerful words a mother has. They say I want to understand you.
That sounds hard. You do not have to fix it. Naming it is enough.
What do you need from me right now?He may want help. He may want quiet. Ask, do not assume.
I trust you to figure this out. I'm here if you want help. This is how you talk to a grown man.
